Perhaps even more important to the effective and efficient operation of a healthcare facility than the actual surgical instrumentation and medical devices is the precise management and quick availability of patient data and clinical information to the hospital staff across all departments. Here is a sampling of some of the latest developments in information management systems for the healthcare and surgical field.
The mobile TRUMPF MARS surgical table is designed to deliver flexibility and efficiency. Its 790-pound patient weight capacity, extreme low height adjustment and stability at extreme angles meet the needs of bariatric surgery, while its full articulation and modularity allow easy and optimal patient positioning for virtually all general and specialized procedures.
Colby Virasorb® Super Solidifier controls fluids by quickly penetrating the canister contents to gel up to ten times faster than other solidifiers without stirring or agitation. Its powerful formula requires only 25 grams to solidify 1000 cc of fluids. ViraSorb is non-toxic as well as Glutaraldehyde-free, chlorine-free and phenol-free.
The DS-04 is a semi-automatic deactivation system that allows for the safe disposal of used glutaraldehyde and OPA from automatic endoscope reprocessors. The compact DS-04 holds up to 12 gallons of used disinfectant. Glute-Out neutralizer (available from PCI medical) is added at the start of each cycle and fumes from the disinfectant are eliminated.
The BASS Fluid Control System improves OR safety by keeping the floor dry. The comfortable floor mat is large enough for the surgeon, scrub and ortho tech to stand on at the same time. The BASS collects, contains and eliminates fluid, thus allowing for quicker turn-around time between cases. It also helps prevent staff slips and falls and helps meet OSHA standards for controlling blood borne contaminants.
The Derma Prene® Ultra surgical glove is powder-free and made from latex-free neoprene. It is safe for latex sensitive (Type I) and chemical sensitive (Type IV) healthcare professionals and patients. Derma Prene Ultra features an “accelerator-free” formulation that eliminates chemicals (thiurams, MBTs or carbamates) in the manufacturing process that are known to contribute to Type IV allergies.
Cardinal Health's Esteem® surgical gloves are made from a synthetic polyisoprene formulation for the fit, feel and performance of a latex glove without the worry of natural rubber latex protein allergens. The surgical glove is a thicker glove that can be used for orthopedic or high-risk procedures.
AliMed® Radiation Resistant Gloves protect user’s hands from direct and scatter radiation originating from an X-ray beam during fluoroscopic examination procedures. Made of a synthetic rubber formulation, they avoid the pertinacious sensitivities associated with natural latex. Gloves attenuate 32 percent at 60 kVp to 14 percent at 120 kVp in the primary X-ray beam.
Co/Struc is a modular storage and transport system for caregivers. Modular components create an adaptable healthcare facility that helps maximize efficiency, maintain sanitary conditions and save labor. With its variety of multifunctional components, Co/Struc can be easily assembled, moved and reconfigured to serve different work settings and a broad range of functions, including endoscopy procedures.
The Scan Modul double cart can multi-task to meet all of a facilities catheter needs. The cart provides storage for hanging, boxed, flat, or shelved catheters with modules that are always interchangeable. With additional parts, the modules can be rearranged to provide additional storage space with “no tools needed” quick installation.
InnerSpace is offering three new small diameter scope cabinets that are ideal for storing bronchoscopes, cystoscopes, ureteroscopes, and other small diameter flexible endoscopes. Two free-standing cabinets are offered in either powder-coated metal or melamine, along with a wall-mounted powder coated metal cabinet.
These Overhead High-Density Mobile Storage Systems can instantly and economically increase storage space by 40 percent or more. Benefits include added efficiency and inventory control by positioning more supplies near the point of use. The overhead track allows little chance for dirt and dust to accumulate and the open wire design allows maximum air and light circulation.
The KIMBERLY-CLARK* Multi-Enzyme Detergent is available in a one-gallon pump bottle and five-gallon refills. The detergent helps assure that devices and instruments are clean before being disinfected or sterilized by penetrating and breaking down the most common contaminants found on medical devices, including proteins, fats and carbohydrate-based soils.
Products For Medicine offers an alternate source for SPD sterilization disposables. The company offers Consensus® products at a substantial savings as compared to the OEM. The PFM Consensus line provides filters, sterilization arrows with indicators and data cards for V.Mueller/Cardinal Health sterilization processes, as well as filters, sterilization arrows and data cards for Aesculap sterilization processes.
The Tuttnauer 4472/5596 steam sterilizers, featuring 16-inch by 16-inch and 20-inch by 20-inch chamber sizes, are now available in a space-saving designs capable of fitting into the smallest of footprints. These FDA approved sterilizers are manufactured primarily for use in the operating room and ambulatory surgery centers.
