Chris supplied and operated one of two Polecam rigs in the operating theater to explain the techniques used in 'awake brain surgery'. Using a Polecam zoom lens plus a standard 4 mm lens allowed high-angle geography shots as well as the all important close ups.

"The surgeon and his team were very accommodating and allowed us great access," Chris comments. "Space was always an issue but rigging the Polecam with its elbows enabled us to operate without hindering the theatre staff'.

Part of the standard package designed and produced by Polecam, the elbows are angled extensions which allow a program-maker to control a single camera or 3D-paired cameras from behind a surgeon, getting close in to the subject while retaining much greater creative freedom than is possible with ordinary camera tripods or handheld camcorders.

Camera pan and tilt angles are controlled remotely via a joystick used in conjunction with a viewfinder as can be seen in the accompanying images.
