Healthcare providers learn green practices and earn continuing education credit
Draper, Utah—September 28, 2009— More than four million tons(1) of general waste is produced annually by U.S. health care facilities(2). To support the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses, Inc's. (AORN) guidelines encouraging hospitals and surgical centers to create environmentally responsible policies and procedures, MEGADYNE introduces the education program “It’s So Easy Being Green.”
This title is the fourth in MEGADYNE’s continuing education curriculum. MEGADYNE Medical Products is the developer, manufacturer and supplier of electrosurgical products. The educational program, available online at www.megadyne.com, presents an impartial discussion of medical equipment and vendors that conform to green practices by minimizing packaging to decrease waste.
Topics discussed during the training include:
- Waste management
- Resource conservation and recycling practices
- Applied conservation
- Item reprocessing, reuse and repair
- Green construction practices
All MEGADYNE continuing education programs are approved by AORN, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation. Participants will be awarded one contact hour of continuing education credit and will receive a certificate of completion for each seminar attended.
"Education is the key to successfully planning and implementing green practices," said Michael Hintze, vice president of marketing at MEGADYNE. "As a company we see our responsibility as twofold. First to offer ‘green’ reusable and resposable electrosurgical technologies that are both environmentally and fiscally responsible and, second, providing information about other vendors and materials that are designed to reduce waste and benefit our environment. This program reinforces our commitment to both green products and education."
