Conservative Surgery Comparable To Nephrectomy

The latest results from a European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer study were presented in a plenary session at the Anniversary EAU Congress, and showed that conservative surgery is not inferior to radical renal surgery or nephrectomy in addressing kidney cancer.

Amongst the study's pertinent findings were that overall survival rates did not differ enough between the two groups to find one approach more preferable. Also, the nephron-sparing surgery had a slightly higher complication rate than post-radical nephrectomy procedures.
