A new Internet-based physician health portal that will allow for instant sharing of medical records between doctors is the latest expansion of the affiliation between The Mount Sinai Medical Center’s Head and Neck Cancer Center and ENT and Allergy Associates, LLP (ENTA), the largest and most comprehensive ear, nose, and throat, allergy and audiology practice in the tri-state area.
The ENTA / Mount Sinai partnership, formed over three years ago, was built on the premise of providing and delivering quality access to care. It represents a new business model that advances the efficiency of healthcare delivery by eliminating redundant testing, reducing administrative overhead, and improving communication between doctors. Most importantly, it drastically reduces for ENTA patients the average wait between diagnosis and life-saving head and neck surgery.
Under the partnership, patients of ENTA have direct access to Mount Sinai otolaryngologists, and are typically seen at Mount Sinai within 24 hours of diagnosis at an ENTA facility. No referrals are needed. Patient records are shared automatically and Mount Sinai doctors collaborate bi-directionally with ENTA doctors about the case.
No longer do patients with serious medical problems have to shop around for specialists or surgeons in their insurance network, arrange appointments at various screening and imaging centers, ensure that referrals and medical records are transferred from office to office, and wait weeks or even months for surgery. This new portal represents further expansion of the affiliation, and provides a superior information sharing capability that will enable physicians to have instant access to critical patient health information.
