Anyone who works in a hospital's clinical setting is familiar with stress, trauma and drama. The surgery department can be an especially stressful environment, often with daily life and death situations. A unique new website launched last week is a safe and inspiring place for OR pros to enjoy and share funny work stories. features an on-going "soap opera" podcast "As the Scalpel Slices™" where visitors can listen to weekly episodes, comment and vote on next week’s storyline. "OR Funnies™" allows visitors to upload video stories about their surgery experiences. In the "Witless Protection Program™," visitors can share written stories about funny events taking place in their operating rooms.

The HIPAA-compliant site was created by entrepreneur and surgical device inventor Julie Ryan of Birmingham, Ala.

"Some of the best jokes and stories come out of the OR," Ryan said. "Laughter is a great stress reliever and we can all image how tense the OR can be and is. It's my hope that, a site designed for quick, easy accessibility, provides a welcome break for OR staffers and doctors."

The podcast soap opera "As the Scalpel Slices" is filmed in Nashville and written by a professional comedy writer. The site visitors will be able to vote on the storyline every week. membership is free. Funny Surgery Stories is on Facebook at and Twitter @funsurgstories.
