And The Winner Is ...

Action Products recently announed that their Nurse Angel of 2011 is Shirley Pollard Ramsay, DNP, APRN, CRNFA. “Action is proud to honor such a deserving nurse,” stated Mistie Witt, president of Action Products, Inc., Medical Products Group.

Shirley started out as a Vet Tech, but was spending more time with the owners than her animal patients. This motivated her to become a perioperative nurse and then to earn her doctorate in nursing. She has been a member of AORN since 1997 and recently was named president of the AORN chapter in Lexington, KY. “Dr. Shirley”, as she is known by her friends, works tirelessly on behalf of her patients. Shedonates her services twice a month to Surgery on Sunday, a non-profit that performs surgeries for the underprivileged, giving them the medical care they desperately need. The organization has done over 4,200 surgeries in Lexington since its inception in 2005.

Shirley says that her proudest moments are when patients tell her that she has made a difference in their lives. She also said that she is ecstatic about being the Action® Nurse Angel, and filled with pride, as the honor was peer nominated.

To kick off the product launch of the Action® Angel series of operating room table pads, and in celebration of Nurse Angels worldwide, Action hosted a contest in search of the ultimate Nurse Angel. Peer nominations and voting were done on the company blog. The award was disclosed on Florence Nightingale’s birthday, the original nurse angel. Action and her peers believe “Dr. Shirley” embodies everything that Nightingale stood for and is well deserving of this designation. She will also be entered into the CNN Hero of the Year competition.
