Aesculap has announced the acquisition Aragon Surgical, Inc., a specialist in advanced radio frequency electrosurgical instruments for tissue fusion and cutting. The Caiman instruments are the only RF devices on the market with an articulating jaw-technology, which provides improved maneuverability at the surgical site. The line is seen as a compliment to Aesculap's current endoscopic and open surgical instruments.

Sony Corporation has acquired U.S.-based venture corporation Micronics, Inc., a company involved in the research and development of near patient point of care devices for disease diagnosis, treatment monitoring and blood testing. The company feels this acquisition will accelerate its own research, development and commercialization for Point of Care diagnostic equipment.
