Federal prosecutors say two staffers at a northern New Jersey medical devices firm have admitted their roles in a scheme to defraud hospitals out of more than $800,000.
Daniel Metz, a 34-year-old Fairfield resident, and 35-year-old Charles Carey Jr., of Clark, both pleaded guilty Tuesday to conspiracy to commit wire fraud.
Both men worked for Integra LifeSciences Corp. of Plainsboro, a provider of orthopedic products. Metz was a regional manager and Carey was a product specialist, selling medical devices to hospitals.
Prosecutors say the men used various fraudulent methods to overcharge hospitals and surgery centers, such as charging them for a greater quantity or a more expensive product than was actually used.
Both men face up to 20 years in prison when they are sentenced in January.
