Frimley Park Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in Surrey, England has successfully implemented Picis integrated surgical, anesthesia, recovery room and critical care software solutions. The implementation is already helping Frimley Park improve its departments' productivity and efficiency, and further its initiatives to help improve patient safety.
Frimley Park’s adoption of the comprehensive solution, part of the Picis CareSuite® family of high-acuity solutions, is believed to be one of the most advanced uses of patient care automation solutions within the entire National Health Service (NHS).
The Picis solution allows Frimley staff to capture all relevant clinical and administrative data automatically as patients enter and pass through the preoperative, intraoperative, postoperative and critical care environments of the hospital.
It is designed to help Frimley optimize the use of nursing staff, supplies and operating room schedules as well as the clinical care process; and its analytics tools will allow performance over time to be measured and understood, thus contributing to Frimley’s advances in best practice.
“Our clinical team is genuinely excited by how it helps us improve efficiency and patient safety, as it brings order to the entire care pathway,” says Andrew Morris, Chief Executive of Frimley Park Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
The Picis integrated software solution for surgical, anesthesia, post-anesthesia and critical care areas helps clinical staff to automate documentation of care through the entire patient pathway, helping to reduce the potential for errors.
Loua Shaikh, M.D., Consultant Anesthetist/Intensivist at Frimley Park Hospital NHS Foundation Trust says, “Picis software can help us to manage resources more effectively than ever before in the most critical areas of the hospital. It makes it far easier for clinical teams to access information and manage data, and is a superb example of how the appropriate use of information technology can help physicians improve clinical practice.”
“NHS IT is under the microscope like never before. Every investment needs to demonstrate a strong return,” adds Liz Popovich, Co-founder and Executive Vice President of International Operations at Picis. “The implementation has gone extremely well, and over the coming months management, staff and patients at Frimley Park can expect to see the kind of benefits that only a specialized information management system can help bring to high-acuity care areas of the hospital.”
Frimley Park is utilizing the following modules: Picis Theatre Manager, SmarTrack®, PACU Manager, Anesthesia Manager, Critical Care Manager, Extelligence® OR, Extelligence Anesthesia and Picis Perioperative Dashboard.
