May 8, 2009 7:39 am | Ethicon, Inc. | Product Releases | CommentsThe Wound Management division of Ethicon, Inc. offers the Biopatch, a protective disk with CHG to prevent catheter-related bloodstream infections (CRBSI) and local infections. According to the company, it is the only dressing clinically proven for use in skin antisepsis. A study published in JAMA® in 2009 showed use of a chlorhexidine gluconate-impregnated sponge (CHGIS) in intravascular catheter dressings reduced rates of catheter-related infections (CRIs), and also showed that changing unsoiled, adherent dressings every seven days rather than three days appears safe.
