Greater Saphenous Vein Removal System

February 16, 2005 3:57 am | Smith & Nephew, Inc. | Product Releases | Comments

Smith & Nephew has introduced its TCI™ (Tumescent Catheter Inversion) System for minimally invasive removal of the greater saphenous vein. Typically, varicose veins can be traced to failure of the valves in the saphenous vein. Conventional “stripping” or removing the saphenous vein can prevent varicose veins from reoccurring, but the TCI System makes this procedure less traumatic for the patient because of the solution used to infiltrate and irrigate the procedure area and flush the vein channel after its removal.

Embolic Protection System

The FilterWire EZ™ Embolic Protection System is a low-profile embolic filter mounted on a guide wire and is designed to reduce complications during balloon angioplasty and stenting procedures for the treatment of saphenous vein graft (SVG) disease. The filter captures embolic material that becomes dislodged during interventions, which would otherwise travel into the microvasculature where it could cause a heart attack.
