When performing this procedure with conventional scissors there is a tendency for the tips to slip off, rather than engage, the dense ring of fibroelastic tissue as the blades close. To address this problem, this scissors features a conical lower blade to support the punctal ring during approximation of the blades; a textured surface to immobilize the punctal ring as pressure of approximation builds and micro grooves to engage the punctal ring while cutting.
