LED Lighting Considerations

May 4, 2011 6:21 am | by Alan Campbell, Product Manager, CHROMOPHARE, BERCHTOLD, Corp. | Berchtold Corporation | Articles | Comments

LED lighting’s most unique “green” aspect is its potential to reduce power consumption in the OR. Older halogen lights consume over 200 Watts of power per light head.  Some recent halogen designs consumed as much as 400 Watts of power each.  Halogen lights require more input power simply because this filament-based (incandescent) technology is much less efficient at turning electrical energy into light than LED.

LED Surgical Lights Work To Create Green Environment

April 25, 2011 7:29 am | by Harold Koltnow, Senior Product Manager for Surgical Lights, Skytron | Skytron | Articles | Comments

The introduction of LED surgical lights has not only improved the ability of the surgeon to visualize the patient, but has also contributed to a cleaner, greener environment. First, and possibly most important to the OR staff, is that there are no bulbs to replace. Most halogen lights need replacement bulbs several times each year, wasting materials, time and money.
