New monitoring badges have been developed to measure personal exposure to Acetic Acid. Totally immersible fiber-optic scopes are frequently sterilized in the Steris System that uses peracetic acid, which is a combination of acetic acid, hydrogen peroxide and water. As peracetic acid decomposes, acetic acid is one chemical that remains. Acetic acid appears on the Toxic Substance List and OSHA has established a 10 part per million (ppm) 8-hour exposure limit. Now, users of the Steris System can now document compliance with the OSHA standard and assess any potential exposure problems. The monitor is fully validated to all Accuracy Requirements and the cost includes prompt laboratory analysis and report, postage paid mailer, and technical assistance.
