The patent pending Lumpectomy Orientation System provides a quick, easy and certain orientation of excisional breast biopsies. Labeling is done by the surgeon as soon as the specimen is out, improving compliance by getting accurate orientation. Tissue samples are oriented without the use of sutures, specifically using pins that can be inserted through the tissue sample. The pins are marked, Anterior, Medial and Superior when the pins are properly inserted the orientation direction markings indicate the orientation of the tissue sample relative to the body from which it was removed. The opposite sides of the marked pin are capped with a CAP with the word sharp on it indicating to the user where the "sharp" is located. Furthermore, the orientation direction markings can be seen under x-ray or other examinations of the tissue sample.
