The Joint Commission has issued a warning regarding the administration of PCA (Patient Controlled Analgesia) medication by those other than the patient or authorized healthcare professionals. As stated in a recent Sentinel Event Alert, serious adverse events can result when family members, caregivers or clinicians who are not authorized become involved in administering the analgesia for the patient "by proxy."1
In order to alert all who come in contact with patients receiving PCA, Medi-Dose/EPS has introduced a series of free auxiliary label images calling attention to the vital fact that only the patient is to control the PCA medication. The labels can be printed using the company’s MILT 3.0 software and its Mini-LiquiDose laser & thermal labels.
