Karl Storz Endoscopy-America has launched their new high-resolution visualization system for a wide array of open microsurgical procedures, including cardiovascular, spine, small joint applications, pediatric, head and neck and plastic surgery. Designed to function as more than just a surgical tool, the VITOM® System aims to provide:
- Enhanced visualization.
- A better ergonomic working position for surgeons.
- A u seful method for presenting and sharing clinical images during training and education.
- A simplified means of documenting procedures.
The VITOM® System combines an exoscope with a high-definition video camera system developed originally for endoscopic procedures. The system includes a display unit, light source, holding systems and documentation unit. The video components deliver 1080p resolution with a wide 16:9 aspect ratio. Surgeons also gain the benefits of larger working distances of 25–60 cm above the surgical site, and greater depth of field. For teaching, training and presentations, residents and students can view the surgical field without more clearly and without it being obstructed by the surgeon or assistant. Additionally, the VITOM® System can be introduced nto the operating field with minimal interference in the procedure, as use of a pneumatic holding device allows for simplified positioning of the excoscope.
