TRUMPF KREUZER Custom Power Boom Systems: New Flexibility in the O.R. and ICU/CCU

“We knew from the beginning we wanted to go with ceiling-mounted Booms,” explains R.N. Bev Small, describing the recently opened 11-story clinical building expansion at Children’s Hospital Boston (CHB). The surprise, however, for CHB came when representatives from TRUMPF Medical Systems began taking the planning committee’s questions and developing them into innovative solutions. The result: improved efficiencies in each of CHB’s 8 new OR’s and 40 new ICU rooms.

By adopting a flexible, custom approach to every Power Boom installation, TRUMPF is adding innovations that meet each hospital’s unique needs.

Children’s Hospital Boston Innovations Save Precious Time

In general, Power Booms allow medical equipment, electrical and gas supplies to be easily swung within reach when needed—and just as easily swung out of the way. Carts and wires on the floor are eliminated. Among the CHB-specific innovations, that are a result of TRUMPF’s custom approach, is an equipment organization plan that lets Nurses perform the ABC’s of resuscitation without stepping away from the patient. “Everything can be done from one spot: It’s a time saver when time is at its most precious,” says Small. Another vital time saver is the surgical/task light installed on each ICU Boom. “Now when a bedside emergency procedure is required there’s no time wasted running to find a surgical light,” says Small. “It’s right there, at hand, ready to be used.”
