Instrument Insulation Testing Device
Insulscan is a FDA-approved device for testing the insulation on electrosurgical instruments. It takes seconds to test each instrument in the OR prior to and after surgery. The device tests the insulation on 5-mm and 10-mm laparoscopic and endoscopic instruments for pinholes or any leaks in the insulation. During surgery these pinholes or leaks can cause arching of electrical current inside the patients abdomen and cause a burn to the bowel or other unintended target, resulting in a range of serious problems.
