Device for Safe Blind Veress Needle Passage

The LapCap is a novel laparoscopic device which allows for safe, simple and predictable blind Veress needle passage. The surgeon simply places the translucent device on the peri-umbilical abdominal wall and attaches standard suction tubing to its vacuum line port. In less than eight seconds a cone of full-thickness abdominal wall is elevated into the LapCap dome, creating a vacuum “safe space” within the base of the dome. A standard Veress needle can then be safely and fully advanced through the central LapCap pass-through port, positioning the fully advanced needle tip within the peritoneal cavity while preventing contact with intra-abdominal viscera.
