Automated Medical Products Corp. introduces a new Iron Intern® product, the Pier Giulianatti Scarless Thyroidectomy System. The product is designed by Pier Cristoforo Giulianotti, MD, FAC. A world-renowned robotic surgeon, president of the Clinical Robotic Surgery Association (CRSA), Distinguished Lloyd M. Nyhus Endowed Chair in Surgery Chief, Division of General, Minimally Invasive and Robotic Surgery Vice-Chairman, Department of Surgery, University of Illinois at Chicago.
The retractor system for minimally invasive robotic surgery designed for Thyroidectomy preformed through the axilla. The system includes a 26” modified Iron Intern® vertical bar, a horizontal bar with ratcheting mechanism to allow different angels of retraction, three 110 degree Harrington blades (small 15cm, medium 17cm and large 20cm long).

Additional blades of varying angles are also available according to user specifications. A separate handle is included that will enable manual retraction of the Harrington blades and there are two hand-held Deaver retractors, specially designed to hold the incision open for introduction of the adjustable retractors. Used in conjunction with the da Vinci® Surgical robotic system. Other procedures are being investigated that will benefit from this specially modified Iron Intern® and retractors.
This new device will be introduced at the Clinical Robotic Surgery Association’s (CRSA) 2nd worldwide congress held in Chicago UIC Forum this weekend October 1-2, 2010. This congress will be attended by 300-400 surgeons from over 20 countries.
