GerMedUSA Inc. announces the distribution of the patent pending Vijay-Robinson Sequential Suture Holder™, also known as the Sequential Suture Holder™.
This surgical instrument was invented by Dr. R. Vijay, a well-known and respected member of the cardiac surgery community. His idea was inspired by his college and mentor, the late Dr. George Robinson. Dr. Robinson was Chief of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery at the Montefiore Hospital and Medical Center. He was also the Professor of Surgery at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He was the first surgeon to perform a heart valve replacement, as well as the first surgeon to implant a pacemaker in a patient.
During the period of 1969-1972, there were no surgical instruments made available to members of the medical profession that could hold several sutures for heart valve replacement, which caused the sutures to tangle thereby prolonging the surgeries. The Sequential Suture Holder™ makes surgical procedures more efficient and less tedious than previous methods.
This surgical tool is designed to attach to a surgical drape more easily. When the sutures pass through the annulus of the heart valve, they’re attached to clamps and placed into the Vijay-Robinson Sequential Suture Holder™. During a procedure, the sutures are removed on at a time in sequential order. Then they are applied to the sewing ring of the artificial heart valve. The needles are cut and all the sequential sutures placed on the holder are lifted to move the hear valve into the proper position. The sutures are then tied and cut. The Vijay-Robinson Sequential Suture Holder™ is constructed of plastic, steel and aluminum.
“At present, from my vision, we have manufactured, patent pending the design, an aluminum, steel and plastic model of the Vijay-Robinson Sequential Suture Holder, name also in memory of the late Dr. George Robinson. It is ready to be contracted at a surgical care company for worldwide distribution,” according to Dr. R. Vijay.
