I feel like an anthropologist. I may have discovered an artifact that holds the clue to the cause of the obesity epidemic.
It's my grandmother's china.
It's nothing special -- just your inexpensive white dishware dating back to the 1940s -- but it's different in many ways from china today. The pattern -- a daisy-chain of tiny pink, blue, and green flowers -- is distinctly old-fashioned. The china is light and delicate and wouldn't survive one pass through the dishwasher.
But the most obvious difference is its size.
The dinner plate is only three-quarters of the size of the modern version. And the other items in the place setting are proportionately tiny.
