Covidien introduces the extension of absorbable fixation into open ventral hernia repair—the new AbsorbaTack20 short fixation device. The AbsorbaTack 20 short fixation device is intuitive for the surgeon to use, and contributes to a safer surgical environment.

Covidien offers the AbsorbaTack™ 20 Short Fixation Device, part of a comprehensive system for open ventral hernia repair. The new absorbable fixation device, with Parietex™ Composite Open Skirt (PCO OS) Mesh, provides a solution that adds no sharps in the OR for a safer surgical environment. According to the company:

  • The AbsorbaTack™ 20 Short features an easy-to-use 18.5 cm short shaft that gives surgeons ergonomic access to the defect site and deploys absorbable tacks without the need for piloting sharps.
  • The Parietex™ PCO OS skirted mesh provides fast, strong tissue in-growth from compliant, hydrophilic polyester mesh and an outstanding barrier to visceral attachments to the implant through a resorbable porcine collagen film.
