View an educational video of a surgical fixation fracture of the calcaneus. This is the hardest fracture to operate on as it is like trying to piece together a smashed egg shell and the skin is tenuous. It is the furthest point from the heart and ALL downhill. Also, remember that where there is no muscle, there is poor blood supply and so poor skin healing after surgery.
