"Hitting A Home Run" With Robotics

Thu, 04/29/2010 - 7:04am

Dr. Samadi discusses robotic surgery in today's world. He compares his surgical team to a baseball team, where each member has talent and a specific role. They job is to perform at their best in order to hit a home run each time. With robotic surgery, there is less blood loss, more urinary control and sexual function. Samadi believes experience is key. It is an entire process with an experienced surgeon controlling the robot. The controlled setting offers better movement and visualization. In the future, he envisions robotic surgeries being done where the doctor is in another hospital or even another country.
