American College Of Surgeons Inspiring Quality Forum

On Wednesday, April 11, nearly 80 people attended the ACS Surgical Health Care Quality Forum Washington State at The Rainier Club in downtown Seattle. Carlos A. Pellegrini, MD, FACS, FRCSI (Hon.), The Henry N. Harkins Professor and Chair, Department of Surgery, University of Washington and Past Chair, American College of Surgeons Board of Regents, moderated the forum, and keynote speaker Congressman Jim McDermott (WA-7th District) provided opening remarks about the challenges of health care quality and cost. Participants included leaders from Washington State's aviation and health care communities to discuss quality improvement programs and best practices -- including checklists, standardization, culture shifts and transparency -- to make surgery safer and reduce costs.
