Almost 10 million cosmetic surgical and non-surgical procedures were performed in the United States in 2009, according to statistics released by the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. The most popular surgical procedure was breast augmentation.

Trends identified by ASAPS included:

  • 311,957 breast augmentations were performed.
  • 283,735 liposuctions.
  • 149,943 eyelid surgeries.
  • 127,923 abdominoplasties.
  • 94,247 facelifts.

Women received 91 percent or more than 9 million of the cosmetic procedures. The number of procedures performed on men was more than 900,000, an increase of nine percent from the previous year. Since 1997, surgical procedures have decreased 18 percent while non-surgical procedures have increased 290 percent. Americans spent almost $10.5 billion on cosmetic procedures last year.
